Estimate the cost of closing a certificate of deposit before maturity.
What this is: A rough CD early-withdrawal penalty estimator. Banks define penalties differently, so use this as a ballpark and verify the exact penalty with your bank before closing a CD early.

How to read the result
The penalty is usually based on interest, not principal. For example, a six-month penalty on a $100,000 CD paying 4.25% is roughly six months of interest, or about $2,125. Some banks can invade principal if the CD has not earned enough interest yet.
Before you act: Ask the bank for a written payoff amount. This calculator does not know your bank's compounding method, promotional terms, or special penalty rules.
What would you do with the money next?
After estimating the penalty, compare the replacement options on Savings Marketplace. A higher rate only helps if it earns back the early-withdrawal cost.
